Cabby Blasts 3 Home Runs In Loss

Miguel Cabrera's 1st game back since his newest addition to his Family and boy was it his night, but no the Tigers night. Cabby went deep three times and in impressive fashion. He took his 1st home run to opposite field and over the right field wall.

"It impresses me everytime you see Miguel blast a seed to right field, I'm not sure if the casual baseball fan realizes just how hard it is to hit for power to the opposite field."

Miguel was not done there and was back at it again when pulled a Ben Sheet's inside fastball down the left field line for his 2nd home run of the night.

"Again Cabby was impressive as he took a fastball about 7 inches inside and pulled the ball down the line and gone."

Then it came down to the 9th inning and the Tigers found themselves down one run and Cabrera was slated to be the leadoff man in the 9th. Again Cabrera went deep and to left field of Oaklands young up and coming closer Andrew Bailey.

"Even after Cabrera's onslaught of 3 long balls the Tigers found themselves down one run with two outs in the 9th when Brandon Inge popped out to the 2nd baseman to end the game."

The Tigers ended up losing the game 5-4. We'll lets just say it was Miguel Cabrera 4, Oakland 5. After the game Tigers manager Jim Leyland said it was a great day for Cabrera and not such a good day for the Tigers.

It's good to have Cabrera back in the middle of the lineup, and on another note Carlos Guillen is back and I thought he looked great at 2nd base with some quick double play turns and good footwork.

Last but not least I would like to Congradulate Miguel Cabrera on is recent addition to his family with his new baby daughter. Lets hope Miguel will continue his hot start as he returned to the lineup. It would also be nice if someone else would come to help him.

Willis Not Pitching Tonight Due To Unknown Illness Again!

Tonight's game vs the Yankees slated Sergio Mitre Vs Dontrelle Willis. However once again the D-Train will not start due to an unknown illness. He missed a start last month due to a stomach issue Vs Texas. I'm really not to sure what is going on with the D-Train but I hope everything is ok and he'll stay 100% the rest of the year. Brad Thomas the Aussie will get the start in Willis's place.

Rest In Peace Ernie Harwell

It's a very sad day for all of Baseball and Tigers Nation. Ernie Harwell passed away yesterday at his apartment just outside of Detroit. There really isn't much more I can say about him other than he was a great human being and the best baseball announcer ever. Check out Fox Sports Detroit as they remember Ernie throughout the day.

I had the chance to meet Mr. Harwell at meet and greet before a Tigers home game. He would light up the room just by walking in. He was very down to earth and seemed to make everyone very comfortable. He was more than happy to sign autographs for everyone and you could tell he really enjoyed talking and mingling with the Fans.

Rest In Peace Ernie, You will be missed but never forgotten

JV Throws A Gem, Tigers 5 Angels 1

Justin Verlander would be the 1st one to tell you that he hasn't been pitching well in his first few starts of the 2010 season. Enter Verlander on the mound today and the solid hitting Angels bats were baffled. Watching the game today I noticed a few things that seemed to work for Verlander.

  1. In the 1st few innings Justin was throwing his fastball 93-94 mph. This would seem to be most pitchers best and fastest fastball but we all know JV is capable of throwing a smooth 97 to 99 mph fastball.
  2.  Slider, Slider, Slider.......if Justin can get this Slider breaking sharp and low it will be a nightmare for the American League hitters. Just having his good fastball and curve-ball is effective but with a nice slider and a change up mixed in for good measure it appears JV's could really be in control of hitters for years to come.
It's great to see Justin get back to his old self. After signing the big deal in the off season you would think he might have felt at least a little bit of pressure.

Austin Jackson just seems to keep hitting. You can forgive all the strike outs. He's young and by just throwing him in the leadoff spot as a rookie you gotta expect he's gonna strike out while trying to work the count. Yet Jackson is now among the league leaders in hits. He can go to all fields and is also solid in the outfield. Very soon he may have Tigers fans saying Curtis who?

It was a big sweep of the Angels and next on the list for the Tigers is Minnesota Twins and their 1st visit to the new Target Field! I'm sure you won't find any Tigers complaining about not playing in the Metro Dome nor should there be any fans.

Take It Away Johnny

The Tigers took care of business again today against the Angels. Today's hero was Johnny Damon who hit a bottom of the 9th inning Home Run to right field. Damon has just been sizzling since putting on a Tigers uniform. Today's walkoff was Damon's 1st home run of the year and boy did it come at a key spot. The Tigers Win! The Tigers Win!
